| I went to the Franz Ferdinand concert at Roseland Ballroom last night. OMG those guys are so fucking indie hot. More of a coke hot than a heroin hot, which I like. The concert was amazing, except for the first act.
They had two opening acts, and the first was this band out of Canada called the Evaporators. And believe it or not, they are actually worse than they sound. They had the most inane songs with ridiculously childish lyrics (i.e. I've Got a Disease, I'm Addicted to Cheese; I've Got a Rash, Gimme Some Ointment). So the music sucked. It would have been bad enough if it had ended there, but no, their vocalist had obviously escaped from and insane asylum. He had reverse stage presence, and when he tried to work the audience, he only solicitated more of their ire. I honestly think that Franz was really high when they asked them to open the show.
The second act, Blanche, was quite good though. I'm not sure how to classify them - sort of a indie rock, folk, blues hybrid. They were different, and very talented.
Of course, what everyone was really waiting for was Franz, who came onstage at 9:30. They played everything off their album with a few b-side goodies thrown in for good measure. I think that The Dark of the Matinee was the best song of the night, though I'm a bit biased in that it's my fav song anyway. They also played Michael, which made Alex very, very happy. Anyway, it was a kickass concert, and it was totally worth not doing my work for =P |
